I can’t believe the month of May is already here, which means we Filipinos only got some more days to truly experience summer. The weather has been acting really, really weird this year with unexpected heavy rain showers in some parts of the country when the unbearable heat goes on a momentary break. Given how much I love basking under the sun, the juanderkid in me is surprised with the sudden heavy pouring of rain every now and then. Good thing I started my summer really early this year. As you may know by now, I embarked on my Pinoy Summer adventure as early as March, with week-long travels around Bicolandia and Palawan.
The month of April was a different story though. I have been away from blogging because I was busy and lazy at the same time. I know the two words do not go well with each other, but that’s what I have been through last month. Since our family owns a resort in Donsol, Sorsogon, and Holy Week is considered as a big holiday in the country, I have been spending Holy Week at the resort to help in the operation of our business.
Holy Week is crazy week in Donsol. As I was working as a multi-slashie (read: receptionist, waiter, dishwasher, manager, ad infinitum), I was also hosting some friends who “insisted” on visiting me during this crazy time. 😀 My friends are always welcome in Donsol. They have to know though that because Holy Week is not the best time to entertain them, they have to work well with my routine at our resort. Which means I cannot be that gracious host given the kind of responsibility that I need to deliver. But my friends know that I always try my best to serve them well and make them feel at home (heck, I even let them try on some of the things that I do at the resort like waiting tables and taking the customer’s orders). 😀
This year, my very good friend D decided (on a very short notice!) to celebrate her birthday in Donsol and we were happy that her wish of swimming with whale sharks materialized on her birthday. I was worried that she wouldn’t encounter one (I will write a different post about her Donsol birthday) but everyone in our group was more than pleased after swimming with two really ginormous whale sharks. It was D’s first time to swim with a whale shark, so did V and J, and their friend J. While it was A’s third time and lawyer-friend D’s second time in Donsol, both swear that the whale sharks they saw this year were bigger than their previous encounters!
We were also joined by our other friend A but she had to leave ahead of the group because of prior commitments back in Manila. Here is D’s birthday picture after our whale shark encounter. 🙂
I also went on a week-long vacation in Boracay with my friend A last week and although Boracay was not at her most beautiful at this time of the year, we still had fun. I had previously made a mental note not to go to Boracay during summer because of a not-so-good first encounter with it some years back, but I was raring to hit the beach so I decided to head to Boracay for that quick beach fix.
The good thing about Boracay is that it is accessible and it offers beach convenience that I think is unmatched anywhere else in the country today. The downside though of going to Boracay at this time of the year is that there are just too many people on the island! It was crazy! So A and I decided to camp outside White Beach (or Long Beach as the locals sometimes call it) and found home in Nami in Diniwid Beach.
I love how we were so “far away” and so “near” White Beach! Our location secluded us from the busyness of White Beach but I love the fact that White Beach is just a short walk from Diniwid Beach so we were actually able to enjoy, just the same, the convenience that Boracay offers (I promise to come up with a post on this one really soon). I realized that I cannot work on my blog while I am on vacation. I know I need to reassess this part since the medium calls for urgency and the “now,” but I realized I am not really that kind of person who can mix “business” with “vacations.” 😀
Which brings me to the lazy part of April. Since I’ve been home mostly, I feel that even though I was busy with resort works, I was still on vacation. And getting online to blog and tell my travel stories can sometimes become a chore (if you know what I mean). Also, the poor internet connection back home is just punishing, I really don’t want to be spending millions of seconds online while I am on “vacation.” 😀
You see, this is why I am on vacation when I am home.
I think I made a big mistake of turning my room into this one! Now, every time I try to work on my blog in this room (where the Internet connection is “fairly decent”), I just get really really lazy. I tell you, I would try my best to edit some pictures for posting, upload some photos, work on some words, but my room is just too tempting for relaxation. I always end up lazying around when am up here, spending some quality time with my nieces and nephews, reading magazines and books, or just dozing it off.
But I promise to give my room some psychological combat so I can get back to blogging. I missed this! I just have too many stories to tell and even more images to share! So hang on there, okay? I will keep you posted with some more travel inspirations. Well, if we can’t travel this month, we can work on some interior decorating posts so we can all enjoy our staycation!
Love and light, everyone. Go, juanderlust! 😀
