A lot of people might have forgotten already that aside from dried mangoes, lechons, and rattan furniture, guitars are actually one of the province’s prime products. These guitars do not just speak highly of the locals’ craftsmanship, but also showcase every Cebuano’s penchant for musicality. Their quality is hardly questionable, as most people attest that the best guitars in the country are indeed found in Cebu. Over the last five years however, the guitar industry in the province has been on a decline.
So the next time you find yourself in Cebu, make sure you drop by a guitar factory and appreciate the artistry that goes with creating them before they become obsolete. If you have the budget, support the industry and bring home a piece of these jewels (prices can range from PhP1,000 to PhP35,000). Or you may ask some of the guitar makers, who are undeniably excellent guitarists as well, to play a soothing music or two. Guitar Master, in Mandaue City, is one of these guitar factories worth visiting.
