If there’s one place in the Philippines where everything just gets spicier, it’s definitely Bicolandia. Heck, even their ice cream gets smoldering hot! Aside from the usual Bicolano food favorites laing, Bicol Express, and kinunot, Chili Ice Cream is now another reason to indulge in Bicolano cuisine.
First Colonial Grill in Legazpi City, in Albay, is fast gaining popularity for its flavored ice creams such as the Malunggay (Moringa) and Tinutungan (rice crust) Ice Creams, but its Chili Ice Cream is, without a doubt, the crowd favorite. While the spicy flavor is tempered down a bit by the coldness of ice cream, one cannot deny the hot and cold mesh that makes this dessert an exciting choice. I would have to warn you though that this one is an acquired taste.
Head to Gaisano Mall for this treat when in Legazpi or you can opt to drop by the restaurant’s branch near the Bicol University when you make your way towards the Daraga Church or the Cagsawa Ruins for a view of Mayon Volcano. If only for its novelty appeal, this one is worth a shot.
